MAGIC IS ALL AROUND USThere is magic in every cell of every living thing—plant, animal, or mushroom—flowing in harmony with every cell of your own body. Every speck of matter, large or small, carries that same current of Magic, from each drop of rain to every beam of light. Magic permeates everything: the digital screen now before you, the fabric of the seat you are sitting on. It is always conscious, alive, and able to interact with everything around it, near or far. Once while walking home through the dark from my night job an hour before dawn, I realized I was quite hungry. I thought about the jars of peanut butter and jelly waitng for me in my kitchen, but realized I was out of whole wheat bread (the only kind of bread I like). If I only had two slices of whole wheat bread, I could make the perfect sandwich before sleep, but I have none. As I thought about this and my hunger, a stranger from a side street reached the next corner at the same moment I did. He smiled, held out his hand, and resting on his palm were two slices of whole wheat bread. “They’re delicious" he declared while mumching on a third, "Want some?” I gladly accepted those two slices, and thanked him profusely, realizing I had just witnessed the power of magic at work on my behalf, without my even consciously trying! The famous quote, "If thou but settest foot on this path, thou shalt see it everywhere," is attributed to Hermes Trismegistus, a legendary Hellenistic figure, suggesting that by simply committing to a spiritual or creative journey, one unlocks the ability to perceive the universal presence of divinie consciousness in all things, transforming ordinary experiences into profound discoveries. Or put another way, if you sincerely desire to see the Truth, and possess the uncommon courage to truly look, magic will open your eyes and reveal itself—alive, present, and quietly at work behind the scenes of everything you experience. |
WE ARE BORN MAGICALAs I watched a woman being interviewed on television, she described a moment from her early childhood. She had been in the backyard with her mother, gazing up at the treetops and wondering what the world might look like from that height. With the effortless curiosity of a toddler, she simply floated upward to see for herself, rising above the neighboring yards and their trees. The view was breathtaking, and she thought, “Mom would love this!” But when she looked down, her mother was staring up at her—mouth open, eyes wide. The child didn’t recognize the expression as fear; her mind was filled only with the beauty she hoped to share. Still, something in her mother’s reaction made her feel she must be doing something wrong, so she came right back down. From that moment on, she was never able to float again—not as a child, and not as an adult. I believe her completely. When we are very young, everything feels possible. We don’t need “faith” to overcome “disbelief,” because we haven’t yet learned disbelief. That is why childhood is such a powerful time to begin learning real magic. Yet the world around us constantly sends subtle messages—through words, attitudes, and expectations—that Magic is not real. These messages, though untrue, sink quickly into the subconscious and form barriers that make it ever harder to express Magic, even for those who eventually want to believe, learn, and practice. I was fortunate. My mother began teaching me to experience Magic with her when I was only two years old, and her guidance through childhood shaped my entire life. Her efforts bore fruit—first in childhood—and then shaped my adulthood as well. |
MAGIC IS ALWAYS NEARThe world of magic waits close by you, visible yet lingering just out of sight. It hides only because you were taught not to see it—but that can change. Peter Pan expressed the nature of magic beautifully when he said that our belief is what keeps fairies alive. He urged us to “clap our hands” as a sign that we have not forgotten, and are still willing to see and act upon the knowledge that magic will always be a partner in our lives. His request is both sweetly poetic and deeply insightful, for it comes from realizing there is a great deal we can do to restore this great inner resouce of power and beauty for ourselves and for those around us. Magic has always been an essential part of the reality we live in. We only need to remember, and be willing to act on that deep-rooted knowledge. This website is here to help you strengthen the magic already flowing through and around you. Open your mind and heart, and then act from the realization that magic will always be the most natural part of who you really are. Or, as Peter Pan so simply but wisely put it, just “clap your hands.” |
